The New York Times Magazine has a story this week on one of the world’s most successful people: Elon Musk.
And while it’s the kind of story that might have been written with a single headline, it’s actually the story of a man who, by the time he was born, was already a billionaire, and the result of years of hard work and investment.
Musk is the son of an engineering tycoon who was born into a family that made money off of building skyscrapers, and then became the most successful family in the world.
Musk was born in a wealthy neighborhood in the Soviet Union, but the family moved to California when he was seven.
In high school, Musk went to Stanford and majored in mechanical engineering, earning a bachelor’s degree.
Musk moved to New York City at age 15, and quickly landed a job working for his father, the founder of PayPal.
As an engineer, Musk was able to use his connections and contacts to build the company that eventually became PayPal.
“I knew a lot about the company, but I didn’t really understand it until I had worked at it for a while,” Musk said in a recent interview.
“There was a lot of friction between the business and my father, but we were always very close.”
Musk built PayPal into a profitable company and went on to build SpaceX, which, for the past decade, has been the world leader in the space industry.
Musk’s success has helped transform PayPal into one of America’s largest technology companies, with an annual revenue of $2.5 billion.
But that success also meant that Musk had to learn how to manage money.
Musk had his first real job, at the age of 20, working as an engineer for the company’s venture capital arm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Harcourt.
He went on, with the help of a $250,000 salary and a $30,000 bonus, to build a company called PayPal to make money from a growing number of transactions that weren’t making money.
For PayPal, it was all about building a business that would generate enough money to pay the salaries of its workers.
“We’re in this business of connecting people, not connecting money,” said Musk.
“And that’s a business model that I’ve been doing for 20 years.”
It was also an important lesson for Musk’s other family.
His mother, Mary, was a college graduate who was a sales representative for the local bank and also a successful businesswoman.
“My mother was in the finance industry and had a good job in the bank.
She worked a lot.
And she did have a business background,” Musk explained.
“So, I’m just very much an engineer and an entrepreneur.
And it was an opportunity to learn from both sides.”
Musk took his engineering and business studies and studied finance at Stanford.
He was interested in finance because he wanted to be an engineer when he grew up, and he wanted his parents to be financially independent when he went off to college.
But he had an ambitious plan for the family: to go on to start a family.
“It was really exciting to see that a business could actually work,” Musk recalled.
“If you have the ability to do that, then you’ve built something.”
Musk and his family moved into a two-bedroom apartment in Palo Alto.
His parents and two brothers moved into an apartment in New York.
His sister was born a few years later.
Musk made it work with his parents.
“Our parents were extremely hardworking,” he said.
“They would just sit down, watch television, and do whatever they had to do.
It was really a work environment where they were very disciplined.”
But the stress wasn’t entirely down to his parents; the stress was in fact down to Musk himself.
Musk worked extremely hard, but it wasn’t just about his work.
His first job was at a small local bank.
He said he had to go to the office to pay his bills.
“You go in and you have to fill out forms,” Musk told me.
“The cashier has to write everything down.
And then the manager has to sign all the forms.”
But Musk also had a secret passion: to become a scientist.
He wanted to become an engineer to build better tools for people to use.
Musk became fascinated by biology.
In 2000, Musk said, he read a paper about how humans can reproduce with other humans and see if that would work.
He began to look at how DNA works and thought, Well, maybe that’s what I can do.
Musk started working for the National Institutes of Health in 2003, working on various projects.
He and his wife, Sarah, had a daughter, Hannah, at this time.
“Hannah was about the same age as me and she was a biology major,” Musk remembered.
“She was in college at the time.
I was working on this big project with the NIH.” Musk
