It was an exciting day for the NHL’s brand in July.
The NHL was finally going to get some real live video content to play with.
The new NHL Twitter account, created by NHL Enterprises, featured the brand logo, a banner and a “Get to Know Us” section.
The company is hoping to bring fans up to speed on everything from the team’s upcoming season to the team-building process.
The Twitter account is a nod to the brand’s longtime relationships with social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey says the team will soon be able to post content to the account as well.
The brand was a part of the NHL and was in the league’s portfolio from the start, Dorsey said.
“We have a long history with the NHL.”
Dorsey was asked about the new account.
“Twitter is a huge part of what we do, so that’s the place where we have to build relationships,” he said.
Dorsey didn’t say whether the account would offer content on a daily basis, but he said that is something the team would consider.
The first tweet the NHL tweeted from the account came on Sept. 15, two days after the Penguins defeated the Detroit Red Wings in the first round of the playoffs.
Dorson said he expected that to happen “as soon as we started building our team.”
Twitter said it will add more channels to its team-wide account, which has about 30,000 followers.
Twitter will also start adding new channels to the NHL-branded Twitter account in the coming weeks.
